Liquid ring pumps are special pumps used for moving liquids or gases. They consist of a cylindrical chamber within which a radially bladed impeller rotates, whose rotational motion ensures the formation of a liquid layer along the chamber wall. Because the impeller is positioned off-center, variable-volume chambers (bounded by the impeller blades) are formed through which the fluid passes, compressing.
They are used where large quantities of steam need to be pumped without the use of an intermediate condenser. In this type of pump, the water, which is continuously supplied (both for liquid ring renewal and for cooling), causes the pumped vapors to condense, with capacity dependent on the pump size and operating temperature.
