DESCRIPTION:
The Perkin-Elmer AAnalyst Model 300 atomic absorption spectrophotometer is a sophisticated instrument that allows you to determine the concentration of many elements in both organic and aqueous solutions.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
The AA-300 is used to determine the unknown concentration of a single element by measuring the amount of light. The instrument's readings are calibrated to directly display the concentration; the basic instrumentation requires a primary light source, an atomic source, and a detector. The light source is a hollow cathode lamp (HCL) or an electrode discharge lamp (EDL), which emits a spectrum specific to the element from which it is composed. The light beam passes through an air-acetylene or nitrous oxide-acetylene flame, which has a high specific temperature and flow rate. The atomic source introduces the sample into the flame in the form of an aerosol, and the heat produces free analyte atoms. The analyte atoms in the flame that correspond to the particular lamp used absorb energy from the light source. A detector, usually a photomultiplier tube, measures the light intensity exiting the flame. The electronics convert the amount of absorbed light into the actual concentration of the sample.
